Sulli was always open about her struggles with cyberbullying and online hate. She talked about battling depression and on a television show she once shared how when she told her company that she was exhausted they did not pay any heed towards her. She was very close friends with Jonhyun, who was from the same company and committed suicide in 2017. He left multiple letters behind before death one of which was for his fans in which he talked about his mental health and how he was never taken serious when he talked about its fatality. It is said that his death made Sulli's mental health even worse.

After these two suicides from the members of same company, SMTown, fans are starting to question SMTown's treatment towards its artists. Her death has opened talks about mental health, cyberbullying and peer pressure in South Korea. The rest of the artists of SMTown have put a stop to all of their schedules and have decided to come together as a support to Sulli and her family.
