As both Jeffree Star and Shane Dawson have been very controversial figures on YouTube previously so some people are viewing this docuseries as a way of them trying to erase their controversial pasts and paint themselves as good role-models to the new generation of YouTube. One of the critics said that Dawson wants the viewers to forget that Jeffree Star is a racist and Dawson harassed his cat, and others commented about the docuseries being overrated. Despite the criticism, the second episode got equal love and support from the fans.

The series talks about Shane’s insecurities before entering the beauty community, the new palette and the money that Jeffree makes from his makeup business. It is less of a sympathy evoking episode and more of a raw narration of the growth of their friendship and business together.
